Chemical stores for Schools

Chemical storage is increasingly becoming an issue in schools of all sizes.  Our Chemical Stores are suitable for many industries in particular Schools, colleges and Universities.

For the last 5 years we have been selling chemical / pesticide stores to the Farmers and Universities. For the farming industry we have set up a website called ChemicalStorage4Farmers. This has significantly increased our chemical storage container sales and the Billie Box reputation in the Chemical storage market. Our customers buy from us with confidence.

Many Schools, Colleges & Universities are under pressure to store their chemicals safely and securely. Billie Box Chemical storage containers are fitted with a lock box and supplied with a hardened steel padlock that fits inside the lock box. If any opportunist thieves or vandals try to break in, you need to be sure that the locking mechanism is suitable to keep the store secure.

Billie Box Chemical Stores are fitted with a clear decal on the door saying ‘Dangerous chemicals’ (meaning “Enter at your peril”).  Part of the reason for clear labelling is to mitigate potential litigation. When a Chemical Store is clearly labelled as hazardous, if unwanted intruders get injured from a chemical spillage, then it shouldn’t be your fault.

Even with good safety procedures in place accidents can still happen.  To prevent chemicals spilling out of the container a low physical barrier  is fitted by the doors to the container. This barrier is called a ‘bund’. The bunded floor ensures that any chemical spill does not seep out onto your site (where children and students are walking) or into any nearby water course.

We know that our chemical storage containers are perfect as a secure facility for your School, College or University.  Buying a Billie Box Chemical Store is the safe, simple way to keep your dangerous chemicals secure.

Billie Box Chemical stores meet with the Health and Safety executive’s criteria, giving you the confidence that our stores are suitable for your secure storage requirements.

Billie Box is featuring in the ‘Pitchcare’ online Buyers guide now.

About Jane Billing
Jane Billing has over 30 years’ experience in shipping container supply. During that time Jane has gained a very broad knowledge of the whole shipping container industry. From construction, to shipping, to adaption and conversions, if you have a question about any aspect of the shipping container industry Jane will likely have the answer for you. After many years working for some of the biggest names in the shipping container industry Jane set up her own company, Billie Box Ltd, in 2012. Since launching, Billie Box Ltd has sold well over 1500 new and used containers.

Schools Colleges and Universities

Billie Box knows that many industries require their products and services. One in particular is schools. With the number of burglaries on the rise and the schools colleges and universities not being attended during the evenings and weekends, there is more and more need for secure storage. Our shipping containers are perfect for static storage and are a ‘Must have’ for a school, college or university.

New 20ft sea container

Jane Billing, only the other day, spoke to a headmaster of a school in Kent. The headmaster was reluctant to have a shipping container for storage, as he had his existing containers broken into recently. Jane asked if the gentleman had, had a lock box fitted or was the padlock fitted to the door handles. The headmaster replied: “What is a lock box?” Jane explained that a lock box was a steel shrouded area to house a padlock, whereby opportunists cannot get access to the padlock with bolt croppers. The headmaster then replied: “That is brilliant, I will have a re-think” and he went on to buy a 20ft container.

Schools often have sufficient space to place an, 8ft, 10ft, 20ft or 40ft box, with plenty of room for our vehicles to drive and offload the container. Please see our video showing a box being offloaded.

Delivery and offload of 2 x 10ft sea containers

Lock up your valuables

What has your outbuilding or shed got in it? A bike or two, these could be worth anything from a hundred pounds to several thousand pounds each, lawnmowers can be approaching a thousand pounds, perhaps even a quad-bike or classic motorcycle are inside. Are you a member of an allotment association needing to store rotavators and strimmers or a community sports club with grounds person’s equipment? All of the items mentioned above are highly desirable and very easy to move and steal, how much would they cost to replace? Often many thousands. So is your storage secure? Is it locked with a cheap padlock across a wooden door or perhaps has a large window that can be broken or removed.

In the year to March 2021, there were 440,000 domestic burglary cases in England and Wales (Source – Gov.uk). A lot of those crimes would have been outbuildings and sheds being broken into. We secure our homes with high-security locks but leave some of our most valuable possessions in poorly protected places. Sometimes sheds and outbuildings are broken into by opportunistic thieves hunting for the tools they need to break into the property they are targeting. Your poorly protected tools may enable a thief to break into your home.

What’s the answer? At Billie Box we have an excellent solution. Shipping containers can be used as secure storage and start from just eight feet long and go as big as forty feet long. (sizes in between are ten and twenty feet). One of the smaller units could be used in a large garden or on communal allotments, larger units could be used on farms to protect small tractors and quad-bikes etc. There are no windows to be broken and they are constructed from corten steel (high tensile steel). Solid steel walls protect your valuable items.

The doors are secured with a hardened steel padlock supplied with three high-security keys and can be fitted with a lockbox – A steel shroud around the lock that prevents physical attack directly on the padlock for added security. Any attempt to gain access to the unit with noisy machinery would certainly attract unwanted attention, well before the container is even scratched.

Another benefit of using our secure containers is that your insurance costs could be reduced, if your valuables are behind locked steel doors and steel walls the risk to the insurance company is reduced, so they may reduce your premium, or even insure something that they previously considered a too higher risk. All insurance companies have different criteria. It’s worth contacting yours, to see if it will save you money – a saving isn’t guaranteed but certainly a possibility.

Contact Jane Billing at Billie Box for a quote on your needs, It could tidy up and declutter your premises, giving your company or organisation a more professional image to visitors and potential customers, whilst preventing the distress and loss of a break-in.
